Description
Straight from my imagination, this is a hand-drawn digital painting of a boy or young man looks up at the night sky, luminous with the hazy light of a full moon, on a chilly night as fog and frost overtakes the landscape. Distant peaks glisten in the moonlight, and a mysterious forest with a river cutting through sits in the valley below. This ghostly figure, alone in solitude, points a flashlight into the vastness of the scene, looking up with wonder at the shooting stars that seem to be falling right out of the sky. A barren tree, its leaves gone for the winter, stands tall, also in solitude.
Moonlight has such a quality to it that is hard to explain. It is dim enough that the shadows remain deep and mysterious, but just light enough to cut through the black of night and provide a beacon of refuge from the typical darkness as it softly highlights the contours of a landscape that would otherwise be unseen. It is like the earth's night light - drawing out those who may otherwise be afraid to venture into such darkness - to explore places that look so different in this light than in daylight. And provide a beacon to look toward the heavens, and appreciate the vastness of our universe and place in our small world, and a reminder that even in night, there is light.

Beautiful digital painting, Chance. Love this winter nighttime scene, with its shooting stars and lone bird overhead near the moon. Looks like a beautiful night to listen to the river gurgling behind the tree and enjoy nature’s night wonders. LF
