Description
I have digitally hand painted the Superstition Mountains as seen from outside of Apache Junction in the Phoenix Metro. A rainbow has appeared at the crest of the mountain as a summer monsoon shoots webs of lighting across the sky.
Saguaro Cactus stand watching the late afternoon sun as several desert creatures that I've hidden throughout the painting are going about their business. Can you spot them all?
The Superstition Mountains are of great intrigue in Arizona due to the lore of a gold mine hidden deep in the mountains, and reports that bad things happen to those who go looking for it, hence the name. A bad thing happened to me as I working on this. I accidentally saved over the file - no idea how - and lost everything except the outline of the mountains and clouds, and had to start almost from scratch, after many hours of work. I went back and filled in the foreground details, highlights and shadows, and do think I like this version better than the old anyway.

Wonderful digital painting, Chance, and congratulations on your contest win. I see two birds, one quail, a snake, and a little bird going into his hole in the saguaro..but I probably missed some. Love the intensity of the sky colors and the brush strokes on the cliffs. Great work. LF

you almost found them all Sam, I am VERY impressed. There is a TINY lizard as well in the lower right corner. Almost impossible to see without the full res tool and even then I don't think it selects just the right spot. Thank you very much for the comment and noticing the hard work I put into this one!

Interesting, never heard of them. Guess I gotta go that way if I stumble into some time off! This painting was inspired from a picture I took at a trailhead just outside Apache Junction off US 60 a little ways. Thank you for the support!

I love the way of the deep dark clouds, lightning & rainbow are all together in the enchanting purple sky. It's very mysterious. And the foreground textures & cactus are so beautiful! Awesome work! l/f
