Description
In a complete deviation from my typical landscape paintings, I have painted an acrylic painting of Stephen "Steph" Curry, the starting point guard for the Golden State Warriors based in Oakland (soon to be San Francisco) California.
Curry has won the prestigious Most Valuable Player twice and won three NBA championships with the Warriors. He is among my favorite basketball players due to his three-point shooting, on-court antics (cue the shimmy and mouth guard throwing) and style of play that has revolutionized the sport of pro basketball. Before he was drafted to the Warriors out of Davidson, they were hardly in the forefront of anyone's minds outside of the Bay Area and parts of the West Coast. Curry became the face of the franchise, helping lead them to a dynasty run that only few teams can lay claim to. Even with the arrival of Kevin Durant in 2016 and losing some of the limelight, Curry continues to selflessly play in such a way to help his team win no matter what (even if it means taking a few circus shots that somehow go in), and has remained quite loyal to the franchise.
This pop art, or fan art, or what ever you want to call it is an action depiction as he dribbles the ball, with an abstract background. This painting follows the impressionism that I do in my landscapes. I had a lot of fun doing it, and may paint more profiles and portraits of famous figures from time to time.

Chance, superb work on this portrait of one of the great players in the NBA! Golden State happens to be from my "hometown" area. I head portraits of people in general are not easy to do in art. Yet, you did a fabulous job with this one! F/L

Brian, thank you so much for your kind and complimentary words. They are very different from landacapes, and probably not something I'll do regularly, but it was fun in its own way. Thanks again!

You’re pretty versatile, Chance. Very nice job here. If it was not for injuries to key players, I think Golden State would have won it all again! As Arizona fans, we used to root for Steve Kerr, when the Cats went to the Final Four waaaaay back in 1988!.......fav / like

Jerry, great to see this awesome comment from you! I have heard many stories about Steve Kerr's time here in Tucson. He is probably my favorite NBA coach right now. While I don't really have a favorite team (used to follow the Nuggets pretty closely when they were stacked with Carmelo and Allen Iverson, and were the closest team to me), I have really enjoyed Golden State's run as of late!

Your superb talent continues with your portrait series Chance. I love the feeling of movement about to happen in this work and your painterly use of the brush to express this. F/L/TW.
