The Douglas Springs trail of Saguaro National Park rests beneath a night sky full of stars on a clear night. The Milky Way Galaxy and Jupiter can be seen lighting up the sky above the Sonoran Desert scrub brush and cacti of the park. The Rincon Mountains, which rise to the east of Tucson, can be seen looming in the distance. The American Southwest is a great place to see stars at night. An ethereal glow from the city of Tucson to the west gives off just enough light to slightly light the landscape, but it is far away enough that the stars can be made out.

Tucson based photographer and artist Chance Kafka is a native of Laramie, Wyoming, and grew up in the small community of Wheatland, before returning to Laramie for college. He took an interest into photography at a young age, photographing clouds, sunsets, and landscapes. At age 17, he won 1st Place in the Platte County Fair photography competition in 3 out of 5 categories as the only entrant to win more than one category. Following this local success, he worked as a feature writer and photographer for the Platte County Record Times while still in high school.
