Description
The wide open Northern Arizona vistas are on full display here. This high desert country has views that span for miles and miles, completely empty save for the sagebrush and juniper dotting the landscape, low rising mesas and buttes, and swirly cirrus clouds in the deep blue sky.
Seen just off of AZ State Highway 77 between Holbrook and Show Low in Navajo County, I was captivated by the solitude of the barren landscape. I have always had a fascination with desolate landscapes, and much of northeastern Arizona is no exception. There is something about land that goes on and on for miles, clear out to the horizon, uninterpreted, that makes one feel like they are looking at the ends of the earth. It is mind bending to visit the vast empty deserts of Arizona and imagine they are located within a state home to major metropolitan cities and millions of people, but the diversity of Arizona's geography is one of the things to make it so special.
