Artist's Description
The latest addition to my Kokopelli series and a new personal favorite, I have painted an impression of the "Mittens" at Monument Valley in northeastern Arizona during a radiant sunset, the sun's last light of the day filtering through clouds and into the textures of this iconic landscape.
Kokopelli can be seen atop a small butte to the right, playing away and keeping the spirit fo the Southwest alive and well.
About Chance Kafka
Tucson based photographer and artist Chance Kafka is a native of Laramie, Wyoming, and grew up in the small community of Wheatland, before returning to Laramie for college. He took an interest into photography at a young age, photographing clouds, sunsets, and landscapes. At age 17, he won 1st Place in the Platte County Fair photography competition in 3 out of 5 categories as the only entrant to win more than one category. Following this local success, he worked as a feature writer and photographer for the Platte County Record Times while still in high school. There is a poetic quality in this beautifully framed by the landscape silhouette in this painting Chance. The wonderful glow of color in the landscape as well as the sky gives a longing and dreamy quality I love experiencing. Wonderful my friend. F/L/TW.

I love this. Do you find the night (or dusk) sky harder to paint than a daytime? I know I do. It is the shadows I think, the way they fall differently than when the sun is in the sky. You have caught the last light beautifully
Chance Kafka replied:
A comment from Abbie herself! Thank you so much for stopping by, I appreciate it more than you know. What a nice comment. I find night and dusk to be a little easier actually. I have done photgraphy for years and sunset/dusk/night is my favorite time to shoot so I'm just more familiar with the softer light and long shadows. My photography knowledge has translated somewhat to my self-taught painting. I have a harder time getting broad daylight to look right.
