Description
In 2006, my dad died. About 7 or 8 years ago I had a very, very vivid dream about him. I was standing in a field atop a vista overlooking rolling hills of deep green grass with a mighty mountain range with snow capped peaks on the horizon. The landscape was like nothing I had seen before - it was surreal, grand, and glorious. An extremely bright full moon lit up the sky so bright it was almost like a soft, ethereal daylight. Even with the moonlight so bright, stars filled the sky and the bright band of the Milky Way was very visible. There were trees, a fence, a path, and a very strong smell of wet grass.
I stood there in complete silence, and my dad was there next to me. It didn't really "look" like him as he was a glowing figure and just had a subtle, unclear, form to him, like a ghost, but it felt like him. We stood in complete silence, but had this feeling of mutual understanding and complete peace. There didn't seem to be any concept of time and this otherworldly midnight scene felt timeless.
It is hard to describe this dream in detail, and some might say it was a lucid dream, because everything about it was so otherworldly. I still remember it so clearly even though the vast majority of dreams I forget within minutes of waking up. I also remember so deeply because my favorite things in nature - stars, moonlight, green grass, and snowy mountains, were all present in glorious fashion.
I will leave discernment to the meaning of this seemingly spiritual dream up to the viewer - there are so many opinions on what happens or doesn't happen in life after death and who knows if this was a glimpse at it or simply my brain just giving me a good dream for once. I won't say whether or not it was any sort of spiritual reunification with the spirit of my dad because I honestly don't know - but I like to think in some way it was. In any case, I was compelled to put the scene I saw onto canvas as best as I could and came up with this after painting for 4 hours straight. It doesn't do the mystical, hard-to-describe aura of my dream justice, but it is a pretty good visual representation of the scene.

Beautiful commemorative piece, Chance! Your backstory was an intimate share. I am sorry for the loss of your dad. I, too, have lost my dad and I, too still get “visits” where I FEEL him and it always seems to be connected to a talisman of personal substance. Yes, the line appears to be very thin between dimensions. Your work is a powerful statement Artpiece! L/F
