Description
Humphreys Peak of the San Francisco Peaks rises above the grasslands and forest of the Coconino Plateau Grasslands of northern Arizona. Big, puffy, cumulus clouds fill a deep blue sky on a spring day. Humphreys Peak, over 12,000 feet in elevation, is the highest point in the state of Arizona and more closely resembles peaks of the southern Rocky Mountains (which are hundreds of miles away) than that of the American Southwest, covered in pine trees with a granite, snow covered top. It is an ancient volcano and towers over the city of Flagstaff. It is easy to forget one is in Arizona in this alpine landscape.
