Vivid, warm autumn sunlight illuminates a path atop Mount Lemmon of the Santa Catalina Mountains above Tucson, Arizona. Mount Lemmon, the highest point in the range, is home to brilliant groves of aspen and alder trees that turn bright gold and orange colors in the fall. This afternoon sunlight plays with the shadows to create a calm and peaceful scene, celebrating the changing of the seasons. Taken near the village of Summerhaven, this is a very different landscape than the Sonoran Desert several thousand feet below, as it can be up to 30 degrees cooler here at any given time. The Coronado National Forest spans much of the range and affords some truly spectacular views and scenery and is a fairly short drive from Tucson. These are some of the best fall colors in Southern Arizona.
